About the course:

This is a dialogue-driven course designed to make you a better actor and train your impulses so you’ll feel more free on stage. It will also help to feel more connected to your fellow actors.
 

We will start off by getting to know each other (surprise) in a way that is slightly less awkward than usual. Then we will take some time to discuss everyone’s expectations, wishes, boundaries…The first four weeks will be used to develop and sharpen some acting tools which we will need for the remainder of the course. For this, we will use some exercises by Sanford Meisner, a famous acting teacher from the 1900s. The exercises will mostly be performed in pairs. They are not physically demanding.

After this, we’ll pick couple of scenes from Lars Noren’s Demons, which we will read and analyze before diving in. Demons contains some “lovely” toxic lover-dynamics between two young-ish couples who live next door from one another. Think unhinged gaslighting meets Scandinavian dark humor. We’ll make sure everyone is comfortable playing the scenes we pick. Building on the Meisner exercises, we will work on scenes in pairs and/or quartets. For those who are comfortable with improv/writing, there will be ample opportunity to edit the scenes to your own liking.

In the final weeks, we will work towards a very cool choose your own adventure-style framework for the showcase, in which you are free to adapt scenes from Demons to your own liking.

Hi, I’m Teun (he/they). I studied psychology, criminal law, and music theatre. On a very unrelated note, I have AD(H)D. Since graduating from the Conservatory in Brussels, I have created + directed several interactive performances about spirituality, psychology, and digital culture.
I speak English, Dutch and basic Spanish + German.
